Festival history
We have been organising chess festivals in Wroclaw since 2005. For years their heart was the International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club. Documented editions are listed below; the archive of earlier years is being completed.
WCF 2025
13-19 December 2025, Park Hotel Diament Wrocław. The festival returned in a winter formula: 459 players from 13 countries, 13 grandmasters, 6 tournaments and 4 title norms. OPEN A was won by GM Ilamparthi A R (India), OPEN B by Ivan Zhuk and the blitz tournament by Piotr Dobrowolski.
Polonia Tournament 2015
July 2015. The 10th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club. Group A was won by GM Łukasz Cyborowski (6.5 pts) ahead of Marcin Sieciechowicz and Christof Sielecki (Germany). Group B was won by Aleksander Nikitin of Belarus (7.5 pts) ahead of Maciej Wróbel and Andrzej Szybka.
WCF 2014
20 June - 5 July 2014. Over 160 players from several countries competed in the festival tournaments. The finale was the 9th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club: the open tournament (70 players) was won by GM Mirosław Grabarczyk ahead of Paweł Weichhold and Jerzy Kubień, while the DSA FG Masters round-robin GM tournament was won by Polonia's Daniel Sadzikowski ahead of GM Vladimir Malaniuk and Piotr Dobrowolski.
The festival also included the Polonia Wroclaw Amateur Cup (20-22 June, 30 players), won by Bogdan Żminda.
WCF 2013
June - July 2013. Over 200 players took part in the festival, and the prize fund of the 8th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club exceeded 12,000 PLN. Group A (79 players) was won by Oskar Wieczorek, who also scored his third IM norm, ahead of Łukasz Cyborowski, Piotr Dobrowolski and Daniel Sadzikowski. Group B was won by Mariusz Kowalczyk.
WCF 2012
July 2012. The 7th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club was played in three groups, accompanied by rapid and evening blitz events. Open A was won by IM Kamil Dragun (7.5/9), with GM David Arutinian (Georgia) and IM Kacper Piorun also on the podium (6.5 pts each).
WCF 2011
4-10 July 2011. The 6th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club (groups A, B and C under 14) plus the festival blitz. Open A was won by GM Bartłomiej Macieja (7.5/9) ahead of GM Vladimir Malaniuk (Ukraine, 6.5) and GM Łukasz Cyborowski (6.0).
WCF 2010
July 2010. The 5th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club in four groups (A, B, C and D for the youngest) plus a blitz event. An exceptionally strong field: Open A was won by GM Radosław Wojtaszek (2663, 7/9) ahead of GM Bartłomiej Macieja (7.0) and GM Robert Markus (Serbia, 6.5), with GM Sergei Tiviakov and GM Daniel Fridman also competing.
WCF 2009
20-26 June 2009, Hotel Gem. The 4th International Tournament of the Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club. The surviving main ChessArbiter service is incomplete, but the archive contains full results of the festival blitz: 44 players, 11 rounds, won by GM Dariusz Świercz ahead of IM Piotr Dobrowolski and FM Wiesław Janocha.
Editions 2005-2008
